Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why are there already reminders in the app when I installed it?
A: Memento uses the same database as the default Reminders app, so you can edit and view your reminders in either. That means any reminders you add will automatically be synced through iCloud to your other devices, and reminders added by Siri will appear in the app. You can even delete the default Reminders app and just use Memento if you want.

Q: I don't see any reminders.
A: Due to a bug in iOS, sometimes your reminders are not fetched from the database properly. To fix this issue, you can force quit the app and re-launch it.
To force quit the app:
1) Double tap the Home button (or swipe up from the bottom on iPhone X).
2) If using an iPhone without a home button, long press on Memento in the App Switcher (You will see red minus signs appear).
3) Swipe Memento up in the App Switcher.
Once you re-launch the app, your reminders should be there. I've logged a bug with Apple to hopefully fix this issue in a future version of iOS.

Q: My reminders are getting reordered randomly.
A: Due to a limitation in code, sometimes the app needs to use a reminder list's title as a form of identification. This can cause trouble if you have multiple reminder lists with the same name. Try renaming one of the lists to a unique name.

Q: How do I move reminders between lists?
A: Currently there's two ways to do this. The first is to use Force Touch on the reminder you want to move. Long press on the reminder, then swipe the resulting card up. Then select "Change List". The second way uses drag and drop. In the Reminders tab, press and hold on the reminder you want to move (~0.5 seconds). Then drag it to the list you want to move it to. You can make this task easier by minimizing lists you're not interested in (tap the list name).

Q: Location-based alerts are not working.
A: There are several factors that could contribute to location alerts not triggering. First, ensure you have the correct permissions enabled. In order to receive location alerts, you need the Notifications and Location - While Using Permissions to be enabled. You can check these in the app by tapping Settings > Permissions. If that's still not working, ensure that Settings App > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Location Based Alerts is set to On.

Q: Why aren't my changes saving?
A: Memento saves your changes when you minimize the app. If you typically kill the application after using it, you don't give it a chance to save your changes. When making changes to your reminders, try instead leaving the app running.

Q: Why are time alerts appearing at a different time in Apple's Reminders app?
A: This appears to be a bug with the Today Widget for Apple's Reminders app. When recently switching time zones, the alert time will be shifted by a few hours. Notifications set by both Reminders apps will still trigger at the expected time, and the time is displayed correctly directly in Apple's Reminders app. If you're noticing any other weird behaviour, please Contact Support for more direct help.

Q: Why do notifications sometimes not show?
A: Because of a limitation in iOS, Memento does not receive updates to reminders while in the background. This means that reminders added in Apple's Reminders app will sometimes not have their alerts set until Memento is launched. To mitigate this, the app uses iOS's Background App Refresh to check for new reminders. If you're noticing that you're not receiving updates while in the background, ensure the Background App Refresh setting for Memento is enabled in the Settings app.

Q: Why does the app need my location while in the background?
A: Memento sets up geofences while in the background (the same technology that is used to trigger location based alerts). It uses these geofences to remove any delivered location based notifications from notification center when you leave the location they are tied to. Geofences do not have a large impact on your battery, so you shouldn't see any worse battery performance with Location - Always enabled.

Q: Error: Proximity-based alarms are not supported by this account.
A: The above error is caused by an Exchange account that also syncs reminders. This is a bug in iOS where if the reminders are set to sync for the Exchange account, then proximity-based alarms are disabled for all reminders (regardless of which account they're associated with). To rectify this, please go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords and select each account under the ACCOUNTS heading. For each Exchange account, ensure the switch beside Reminders is set to off. This will allow you to create proximity-based alarms once again.

Q: Error: No start date has been set.
A: This error indicates a reminder has been misconfigured, sometimes by another app. To fix this, you can try two things. First, you'll need to edit the alerts of each reminder with a time alert, and just tap "Update". This will ensure the start date is set properly. But due to a bug in iOS, sometimes the start date will be set, and you'll still see this error. In this case, use Apple's Reminders app to complete the reminder as a temporary workaround.
